Game 1

What’s Luv came out like this was a playoff game and caught SWISH flat footed in the early minutes. They would lead by 13 going into the half and cruise to an easy W on opening night. What’s Luv got easy shots all night shooting over 50% on the night. They also shot well over 50% from three point range including the highest arc three pointer I’ve ever seen (courtesy of Bobby Colorado). Every single player contributed and 4 player scored in double figures for What’s Luv. (Is it just me or do you hear Ashanti singing “What’s Love?” gotta do…gotta to do w/ it babe.” LOL). Delly Thomas with 18-10-5 in the W. For Swish it was a bit of mess as players could not get into a rhythm for most of the game. The #2 pick of the draft Ryan Michalski led with 13-14-6-3, but obviously not enough to get the W. Moodie and Paul added 11 each. Rennie with a W in his GM debut while Preston and Joshua will need to go back to the drawing board for Week 2.

Game 2

Despite the close score, it was The Investment Academy that controlled this game. Every single player really contributed to the win in their own unique way. They also did an incredible job on glass really using their length to bother their opponents. Trevor Mann (was da man) with 14-17-3 and he’s still a bit rusty! Kyle William Edwards finished with a game high 18. Only real concern for TIA is going 0-14 from three point range and 9/21 from the free throw line allowing the game to be some what competitive. For Box Out, they did their best to keep themselves in it, but had an extremely difficult time rebounding the ball and knocking down shots. #1 pick D’Andre Hospedales led with 16-13-2-2, however he was the only player who scored in double digits. You can sense a bit of nervousness for Box Out which should go away in Week 2. Big win for Mike Myers and company. S/O to Calvin Lee taking on GM duties despite the injury.

Game 3

Despite being shorthanded, Unruly pulled through with an impressive victory. It really came down to effort as Unruly did a number on the offensive glass. As I predicted, Unruly is going to be a monster team on the glass and they showed it, outrebounding Grind Time by 26, more than double the total rebounds Grind Time pulled down. Unruly seemingly picked up every 50/50 ball and grinded out a victory. Every single player on Unruly played a key role in the victory whether it was rebounding, diving on the floor, knocking down big shots or forcing turnovers. Jefferson Simeon with a gutsy performance with several “And-Ones”. He finished with 16-13-3-2. For Grind Time, they shot well, way better than Unruly, but really had no answer on the glass. Zac Bendahan with an efficient 18-11. Asiamah was also huge down the stretch with a great all around game. Norman Penola was brilliant in the loss with 19-10 and probably should have had 3-4 more assists with the great dishes he served up. Mahmood added 16. Big win for Nima and Unruly. A learning experience for Grind Time on opening night.
