Who won the On Point Draft?

The On Point draft was a thrilling 3-day process conducted online with our General Managers, On Point and Megacity staff. Now just because a team drafts well, it doesn't mean guaranteed success, however, I think these 3 teams have a head start on the rest of the pack.

#1 - Team Box Out

I really like the mix of players first time GM Calvin Lee put together for his team. As a veteran of the league, he for the most part took players he’s played with or played against and really got some great pieces from start to finish. Obviously having the 1st pick is a great position to be in, but based on history, it's actually a very hard position to draft from because of the wide gap in the snake draft format. Despite the challenge he was able to pick up arguably the best player, fill every role on the team and get proven vets that are excellent team players.

#2 - The Investment Academy

If the strategy was to pick everyone who had a long name, he definitely stuck to it. He took a lot of risks with 50% of the team having zero On Point experience, but I like it. By the 4th round he had 2 former Advanced League All-Stars, a player who would be an On Point All-Star and a rookie with some upside. They picked up scoring and outside shooting with the next 2 picks, another rookie who looked solid in the combine and a former champion with his last pick.

#3 - Grind Time

Scoring, rebounding and distributing should not be a problem for this squad with the way this team was assembled. You’ve got 4 players that can get you 20+ and then you’ve added rebounding, defense and experience. With the game on the line, this  team has a lot of options to go to.

My Top Steals (5th Round to 8th Round)

#1 – Paolo Vergara (#37) – The glue guy every championship team needs. He won’t fill up the boxscore, but he’ll get you that key rebound, steal or bucket.

#2 – Gabriel Ferriera (#25) – Performed very well at the combine but didn’t translate into a 1st,2nd, 3rd or 4th round selection.

#3 – Michael Husbands (#28) – Dropped way further than I thought he would after going in the 1st Round last season. Husbands is the best pure scorer in the 2nd half of the draft.

#4 – Rahul De’Golder (#33) – This  vet can help get you buckets in a hurry. He can stretch the floor and catch fire.

#5 – Tarun Bhasin (#42) – Bhasin has shown he can bring value when on the floor and put the ball in the bucket.

The season begins on February 25th. Good luck everyone!
