Classick vs. Savages - Semi-Finals Game 1
Despite a shorthanded Classick squad, this was a very closely contested match-up. At the half, we were tied at 31. In the 2nd half, the Savages began to pull away. Despite Classick's terrific shooting, the Savages took advantage of their size outrebounding Classick 37-13. This completely lopsided stat was the deciding factor in this game as it allowed the Savages numerous 2nd and 3rd chance opportunities which resulted in a total of 24 more field goal attempts. Zac Bendahan had more rebounds (15) than the entire Classick team (13). Impressive outing for Classick nonetheless, shooting just shy of 50% and hanging in with the #2 ranked team in the league. Norman Penola scored 23, Chris Bongolan had 13-4-4 and Ginoy Wright added 12. For the Savages, they didn't play perfect but they played hard. D'Andre Hospedales led with 20-11, Bendahan with 14-15. Savages earn their ticket to the championship game.
Grind Time vs. The Investment Academy - Semi-Finals Game 2
This was a match-up to remember. This game went back and forth in the 1st half highlighted by a Ryan Michalski buzzer beating 3 to give momentum to The Investment Academy at the half. TIA led by 3 and never looked back pushing their lead to 13. Grind Time tried desperately to get back into the game but had trouble rebounding the ball, knocking down their free throws and making shots in clutch situations. Paul Bartley was tremendous scoring 20 points plus Aaron Martin who finished with 16, but it simply wasn't enough. Grind Time finish the season with a very respectable 8-2 record. TIA shot 50%, shot 60% from long range and outrebounded GT by 16. Kyle Edwards was everywhere and did a lot that won't show up on the spreadsheet. Edwards had a team best 15 points and 14 rebounds (double any other player). Despite getting fouled out with 8 minutes to go, Hakim Dahnoun and Ryan Michalski had 14 each and Rennie Pascal came up big with 13 plus 8 dimes.
The Finals is set! The Savages vs. The Investment Academy! Next week at 8pm at the Elite Training Centre.
