As we head into the highly anticipated 2018 Winter season for the On Point Free Agent League (OPFAL), we wanted to give Megacity Basketball’s “most passionate division” something to look forward to prior to the combine and draft day, which will take place this coming Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Logos Gymnasium from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

Many players are familiar faces, but there are some new faces that could potentially bring a new dynamic this upcoming season. Ultimately, this division reflects the basketball community that Megacity Basketball and On Point Basketball has helped cultivate and developed over the years. To all players, GM's and fans, thank you!

Finally, S/O to all contributors in this mini-project, it was fun and thanks to the entire MB Writers Block for all your help.

THE COMPARISONS

NBA comparisons are always fun and it can serve as a guide and give an idea on what type of player your drafting or who your playing against. Hopefully, you can use this information to your benefit and strategize for the upcoming season.

Please note: The comparisons are in alphabetical order and they were completed by the following contributors:

Jon Phan (in black)

Chrisbtopher (in red)

Jesse Asido (in blue)

Mustafa Akbari – NBA Comparison: Pat Connaughton, Al-Farouq Aminu

Mustafa is another veteran in the OPFAL. He has proven to be a reliable bench shooting guard. Mustafa is primarily a catch and shoot player who can spark a run with his ability to shoot. Would fit well on a team looking for some long range shooting off the bench.

Jason Au Yong – NBA Comparison: Mario Chalmers

Plays like a true veteran and ultimate teammate. He makes the extra pass and can knock down the 3PT shot, if given space. Au Yong also possesses the rare skill in being a championship calibre teammate as it’s been on record that he has been a multiple OPFAL champion.

@chrisbtopher – NBA Comparison: Ty Lawson, Damon Stoudamire

The longtime Megacity vet is entering his first season in OPFAL. We haven’t seen Chris in some time so we are unsure how his game looks these days. In his younger days Chris was a lightning quick point guard with a tight handle and shot from mid and three point range. It will be interesting to see how his game translates with the passage of time. He will fit a team looking to run and gun.

Nima BaeIdfar – NBA Comparison: Cory Joseph

High I.Q and understands the game. He can spread the floor with his shooting, while facilitating his team in the half court set. Does all the little things and can be depended upon to do the little things that won't show up on the stat sheet.

Tarun Bahsin – NBA Comparison: Austin Rivers, JR Smith

Tarun is a spark plug type of player who plays the shooting guard position. He has the ability to come into the game and change the outlook of the game with his scoring. With that being said, Tarun is a very streaky player and can get into hot or cold stretches quickly. Tarun can also be a gritty defender against opposing guards. Would fit as a primary scoring option off the bench on a fast paced team.

Justin Barham – NBA Comparison: Thabo Sefolosha

Justin is fresh off of his rookie season in which he was able to contribute to a championship. He is a shooting guard or small forward type player. Justin can do a little bit of everything, with an ability to shoot, drive and defend. Can sometimes try to do too much on the court. Would fit best on a team looking for a utility player off the bench.

Stephen Bolt – NBA Comparison: Fred Vanvleet, Raymond Felton

Stephen is entering his sophomore season in OPFAL. He is a combo guard who likes to play with the ball in his hands. Stephen is a solid defender who can guard the point guard to the small forward position. On offense he can do some things off the dribble but mostly showed he is a capable 3 point shooter in his first season. Would fit a team looking for a 3 and d player who can use another ball handler.
