Trojans vs Superclub
The finals of the Mill Street Sundays winter season featured a truly entertaining battle between the Trojans and Superclub. Having had a dominant regular season, Superclub were without a doubt the heavy favourites coming into the game, but the Trojans showed up with supreme confidence nonetheless. The Trojans’ early double digit lead would all be in vain however, as Superclub would battle back and win the championship by score of 90-81.
It was all Trojans in the first half. Although Superclub’s Oron Miraie did all he could to keep the game competitive, his counterparts were playing excellent basketball. They shared the ball well and played tough defence during key stretches. In particular, Milton Laidley would be a force to be reckoned with on the inside, using his size to get bucket after bucket and rebounds after rebound. Laidley would finish with an astonishing 24 rebounds in the game. They’d go into intermission with a 48-40 lead, but unfortunately for them the lead would not last. Just a couple of minutes would go by in the second half before Superclub’s Andrew Motta would catch fire and score 9 straight points for his team, forcing the Trojans to call a timeout at the 14 minute mark with the deficit now just 2 points. They game would get tied up at 61, before Superclub finally took the lead once and for all with 8:50 left to go.
