"Old But Cold Edges Out Supremes in Hard-Fought Battle"

A hard fought battle sees Old but Cold come away with the week 6 opener of WMBA action.

Dakota Whyte led her team with 23 and Jill Straton had 13 to help push Old but Cold over the line. They proved to be the driving force behind their team's success on the court.

Throughout the game, White showcased her scoring prowess with a combination of sharp shooting and aggressive drives to the basket, keeping the defense on their toes.

Meanwhile, Stanton demonstrated her versatility with a balanced offensive display, knocking down key shots from beyond the arc and driving to the rim with finesse.

Michaella Riche deserves a lot of praise for her efforts leading all scores with 27 going 11/16 from the field. Mariah Thomas secured a 10 point 10 rebound double double, while Jaky Nimec shot 50% adding 13 points.

Despite winning the rebound battle 46-27 Old but Cold won through their balanced offensive approach and team play. Outside of their big 3, Supremes had very little offensive support allowing Old but Cold to ride their first half lead to victory.

I asked Dakota about her team's victory and she explained “It was a team effort everyone came to play, came to win. We believed we could use our speed and athleticism to our advantage. With Michaella and some presence inside and we made sure to defend the paint and felt comfortable in allowing them to shoot more threes”

The difference maker in this contest was the speed of Old but Cold. Transition offense swung the momentum in Old but Cold's favor and 11 steals, 4 from Whyte, propelled them to victory.

Old but Cold get back to .500 on the season while Supremes remain winless. Old but Cold faces Bodega at 8pm while Supremes will aim to get their first win vs La Famila at 10pm.

"No Name Dominates Free Minds with 85-41 Victory in Impressive Display"

Lindsay Shotbolt had 26, May Kostopoulos had 22, as No Name rolls on and stays undefeated on the season. Last season’s champs had no problems in this one dominating from the tip, and securing a comfortable win.

Lindsay Shotbolt, who is always a nightmare matchup, took advantage of a smaller Free Minds squad dominating the paint adding 18 rebounds while shooting 13-16 from the floor. May Kostopolous was always a steady second option in this one going from 10-19 and using her range to spread the floor and cause chaos for the Free Minds defense.

Emma Jonas, Patricia Palau and Madison Bardoel all played their part in No Name's comprehensive victory, contributing on both ends and allowing their big men to take control of the game.

I spoke to May about the performance and she said “I think we did a great job in transition. We pushed the ball and took advantage of opportunities. We have played together for a couple of seasons some of us even longer, so it’s always about moving the ball and making that extra pass, when you do that we get open looks, and across the board we can all shoot”

Brianna Livington showed up for Free Minds dropping 18 points going 7-13 from the field. In what was a tough offensive game for Free Minds, Brianna stood out and made tough shots all night.

No Name will look to remain unbeaten and they take on Dynasty next week at 9pm. Free Minds falls to 3-3 and will take on Members Only at 7pm.

"La Familia Outplays Dynasty in Intense Basketball Showdown”

In a gritty defensive battle, La Famila took care of business. La Familia used their strong first half to secure an important win.

This highly competitive matchup was led by Leticia Lopez who took command of La Familia’s offense throughout the contest. Whenever Dynasty started to gain some momentum, Lopez would not be denied, and showcased her brilliance as the standout player of the game, leading her team with an 18-9-4 performance.

Jeylinh Bui and Cyann King had strong games finishing with 11 and 10 respectively but the difference in this one was the 3 point shooting. La Famila took advantage of their limited opportunities going 5-12 from deep, while Dynasty struggled going 4-18.

I spoke to Leticia about the keys to victory, she told me “The focus today was defense. My teammates were locked in throughout, we felt we were in control despite missing a lot of shots, but we stayed composed and used that trust we have with each other.”

Despite an even second half, Dynasty was never able to take control of the game, as La Famila focused on clogging the paint, using their length to force difficult shots. Dynasty was led by Carrie Leung who dropped 11 on the night, but Lopez was the difference in a hard fought matchup.

La Familia moves up to 2nd in the standings at 5-1 while Dynasty falls to 2-4. La Familia will look to keep the momentum rolling when they take on a winless Supremes squad at 10pm. Dynasty 2-4 faces the task of challenging the undefeated No Name team in their upcoming match next week at 9 pm.

"Bodega Tops Members Only with 81-34 Victory"

Nikki Ylagan scored a game high 18, Hannah Sunley Paisley and Sydney Charvils dropped 16 on their way to a commanding win in the final game of the evening.

Bodega who were refreshed after a loss 2 weeks ago vs La Familia wasted no time to find their rhythm. Bodega's size advantage was evident throughout, as their paint  presence on the court overwhelmed the smaller Members only squad.

Britney Brown and Slick had good offensive showings for Members only. Brown dropped 3 triples, while Slick presented a challenge for Bodega securing a double double going 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Bodega’s tempo and spacing was the biggest difference in this matchup. Bodega moved the ball exceptionally well, 24 assists and 14 steals propelled Bodega on their way to a bounce back win.

Bodega will look to keep their momentum going against Old but Cold next week at 8pm. Members only will look to get back on track vs Free Minds at 7pm.
