Hong Shing shoots the lights out

Hong Shing drilled 22 three pointers en route to a 113-81 win over Juicy J. Hong Shing is 2-0 since making the move up from the Competitive Tuesday league and are looking great after 2 weeks of action. Every single player contributed to this win with 3 players scoring 20 or more and no player scoring less than 8. Hong Shing shot over 50% and a ridiculous 47% from three point range.

For Juicy J, unfortunately Jarred Reid had to leave the game early. They were right there at the half, but in the 2nd half Hong Shing blew things wide open with their non-stop three point shooting.  Northmann and Petronis had excellent shooting nights shooting over 50% and scoring 19 and 18 respectively. Juicy J simply couldn’t stop the hot shooting from Hong Shing.

The Reach scores 137 points in blow out win

The offense was just amazing for The Reach scoring a league high 137 points. Despite being shorthanded The Reach didn’t show any fatigue and absolutely went off, shooting 65% from the field and 48% from three point range. Kevin Otoo was on fire, shooting 22-27 (WHAT?!?!) en route to a 49 point night to go along with 10 rebounds. Chad Bewley with a great all-around game consisting for 31 points, 10 rebounds and 4 dimes and Darnell Landon also joining the 30 point club with 30 on 13/18.

SCF once again shows off their offensive talents scoring +100 points, but get blown out. They didn’t have an answer for Kevin Otoo who went for 49 and both Bewley and Landon who combined for 61. Good news is the offense is incredible. They shot 58% from the floor and really battled with The Reach for everything else. Something they can definitely build on is their transition defense and free throws. They missed a total of 15 free throws which could have changed the complexion of this game completely.

GBD edge TBD in a battle

GBD held the advantage early on and would hold on in the end to capture a tight win over TBD.  It was a great team effort with so many players having an impact in the game. Ryan Wallen led with 21, Anthony Guada with 18-9 and Kokish with 15. They shot just shy of 50% and drilled 14 three pointers which gave them the edge. This is a big win for GBD who even up their record to 1-1.

TBD did an excellent job taking care of the ball, but could not overcome the deficit in the end. Walker was extremely effective in this debut with 14-7-7. Jazz scored 22 and Dawkins with 18 in the loss. TBD was without some key players. Hopefully they’ll be back in the line-up for next week.

SWAT spoil Chevy’s 60 point effort in thrilling win

Man oh man, this was a great game from start to finish and a candidate for best game of the year. We had the young guns vs. the “old guns” in a game that went down to the wire.

In the beginning, SWAT jumped out to a double digit lead only to see it evaporate in minutes. Desta’s ability to get quick baskets in transition and wide open 3’s stunned SWAT a bit in the 1st half and Desta took an 8 point advantage into the half. Desta looked like they were in control leading as much as 13 only for SWAT to storm back on a 16-3 run to tie things up. It was a back and forth battle, but in the end, SWAT was able to get huge offensive rebounds and putbacks to put them in the lead. Denny McDonald could not be contained in the paint, finishing with 2 key buckets down the stretch. Brian Rosue was absolutely incredible at scoring the ball when his team needed a bucket and SWAT as a whole made clutch shots when they needed to.

Unfortunately that spoils a record breaking night for Chevon Brown who scored 60 points on 21-33 from the floor.  Brown was unstoppable in the open floor and made a few impossible shots but it wasn't enough. He also got help from Barrett with 25. Desta was shorthanded and with 2 players fouling out, they only had 4 players in the final minutes of the game. A great learning experience for them, but Desta should feel good that they competed for as long as they did against one of the best teams in the league’s history.

Brian Rouse brought down the house with 35 points on 15/23, Denny McDonald was big-time with 30-9, Duncan was all-around with 17-14-7 and Atill Williams was on point with 24 points including 4 treys.

What a week.
