It was an interesting opening night lat week. We’re looking forward to another great night of basketball this Thursday. Here’s the league preview…

Hong Shing vs. Juicy J

Both teams are coming off wins last week. Hong Shing hit their stride in the 2nd half while Juicy J did just enough to hold on to a win. Despite being shorthanded Juicy J shot 50% from the floor and put together a great team effort. They can definitely improve from the line and from three point range and will be far greater if they can knock down those shots at a higher mark. Hong Shing played an incredible 2nd half and looked unstoppable winning the half by 18. They did an excellent job sharing the ball and crashing the glass.

Hong Shing has to have an answer for Jarred Reid who went off for 27 points on 12/15 while Juicy J needs to have an answer for Christian Casimier who was a force scoring 23 on 10/15.

SCF vs. The Reach

The Reach is coming off a nice victory despite being shorthanded on opening night. They shot 50% from the floor with 4 players scoring 19 or more. They also played excellent defense in the 2nd half limiting their opponents to 26 points. They’ll take on SCF who despite taking a loss on opening night, looked very good. They rolled to scoring the 3rd most points with 104. It was a balanced effort with 6 player scoring in double figures but they did not have an answer for Desta’s 3-headed monster who combined for 102 points. This should be a very interesting match-up and a high scoring game.

TBD vs. GBD

Both teams took tough losses on opening night and hope to rebound with a win this Thursday. Both teams actually led at half time but fell apart in the 2nd half. Both teams did not play poorly, but have a lot of positives going into this Thursday. TBD may need to get a little more active in the paint, only shooting 2 free throws for the game. GBD will need to get better defending the painted area as they allowed too many easy baskets around the rim. Kokish vs. Dawkins should be an entertaining match-up to watch.

SWAT vs. Desta Training

The young guns will take on the vets this Thursday in a complete contrast of basketball style. SWAT took a 5-point loss last week in a low scoring affair while Desta scored a league best 111 in a run and gun fast paced game. SWAT is one of the greatest Megacity teams of all-time is best known for their defensive prowess. Their team defensive will face the challenge of a younger Desta Training that likes to get out in transition and push the pace.

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR…

Desta’s Big 3 – Montaque, Brown and Barrett combined for 102 points. This is something we haven’t seen in 4 years. Can they do it against a defensive minded team like SWAT?

Jarred Reid – Absolutely unstoppable on opening night and did it with relative ease. Reid with 27 points on 12/15 shooting.

Not being a shorthanded – A few teams have said they have multiple players who could not make it out to opening night, but will be there for this Thursday. We shouldn’t see any teams with 5-6 man squads.
