The halfway point of the season is now past us. We are starting to get a clear picture as to who the contenders and pretenders are. There is still more time for some teams to improve and gel, however we ate now at the point where the playoffs are creeping up on us. It will be interesting see these next couple weeks how the playoff picture shapes up. Here is a recap of Week 4 action.

Hong Shing  81 (3-1) Vs. Kings 83 (4-0)

In a possible finals preview, and a highly anticipated matchup it was the Kings who were able to fend off Hong Shing in a highly competitive and entertaining matchup. Hong Shing jumped out to an early lead backed by some red hot shooting to start (10/15 FG to start). It looked like they would run away as they pushed the lead as high as 15 in the firstv10bmins. But, the Kings have possibly the most potent offence in the league, and they were able to catch fire near the end of the first half as their defence picked up. The 2nd half saw the kings develop a cushion of 8-12 pts that they sustained until the last few minutes. Hong Shing went ice cold for most of the 2nd half, but put in a late push that saw them nearly claw all the way back. The matchup was  as advertised, and leaves us all anticipating a playoff rematch between these two tough teams.

District 6 76 (2-1) Vs. Bel-Air Academy 56 (1-3)

District 6 came into this matchup with a sense of purpose. They have not played up to standard as yet this season, but that changed as they handled Bel-Air easily en route to the victory. The first few minutes of the game Bel-Air looked like they were ready to take District head on, but District was able to figure out their defence quickly and build a cushion. They sustained it with a well balanced attack and crisp ball movement that had Bel-Air scrambling defensively. Bel-Air simply did not have an answer for District, and made it hard on themselves with questionable decision making offensively. They have not been able sustain their strong and balanced team play they showed the first 2 weeks, and need to get back to that to give themselves a chance moving forward. District appears to have hit their groove and played their most complete game of the season in this one.

The Vets 60 (1-2) Vs. Regeneration X 55 (0-4)

In a battle of 2 teams still looking to find themselves, we saw a retooled Vets team take down Regeneration in a tightly contested matchup. The Vets came back after a week off with a different and more methodical approach that seemed to suit them well. They stayed within themselves offensively, and were able to contain a high octane Regeneration attack. Regeneration were unable to take care of the ball throughout the game, and did not show discipline defensively as they gave The vets 30 FT attempts on the night. The Vets will need to convert better on those opportunities against the top teams however, as they only hit 20/30  of the attempts. Regeneration is at a crossroads on the season now. They have the tools to compete, but cant seem to put it all together for a full game. It will be interesting to see how they approach the 2nd half of the season, and if they can get all of that talent to as one.
